. . . couldn't think today

Seriously, I can't think of a topic to write about; I couldn't even think of a title for this post. I had a hard time picking which photograph to show today, too. I'm not so much indecisive as boring, I think.

Here's something though: I have finish three large paintings, but I have not taken any pictures of them. And I hesitate to post them on this blog. The small collages I have done for the past month or two have definitely had an impact on my art in two ways: (1) the collages were small, easy, fast, and it didn't really matter so much whether they were any good, because I was just playing around; and (2) I have used a lot of geometric figures, primarily squares and rectangles, in the new paintings. And it does matter if the paintings are any good, because I cannot just play around; my continued livelihood depends more than ever on whether these paintings sell. And that is a paralyzing thought.

Someone close to me told me they had an assignment: think of ten things they love about their lives and then think of ten things they hate. This person was worried about coming up with enough things in both categories. I can think of ten things I love in about ten seconds. The hate category is more difficult. I don't hate a lot of things about my life. It seems to me if you hate something in your life, you get rid of it.

Reported very good! The hatred is alien to me, but many still hate ...

I'd have no problem thinking about 10 things I love about my life. I did the exercise once, but it was about me rather than my life. In that case I had trouble finding things I liked about me but no problem at all finding things I hate about me. Funny how that works.

As for your paintings, just breathe. Try to approach them in the same way as the collages.

Never boring. I don't think I could come up with ten things I hate about my life. Ten years ago, I could have, but things have changed for the better.
I would love to see your paintings. I am sure they are wonderful.

I always find that the minute I think about making money from what I create, I get tense and it shows in what I produce. I try to just create and hope that the positive energy I feel in the process will translate into the work and there will be someone who will recognize it and want to live with it. I don't know if others have any ways to overcome the create to sell stress.

It is a slow time for the sale of work in my area. I always find the three months after Christmas the slowest of the year. I'm longing for spring.

Hi Mary. I got your wonderful collage today in the mail--thank you so much for your generous give-away. Your art business card is the best I've ever seen, too. A scan of your collage and a plug for your blog and Etsy site are on my blog this evening. Hope it brings in tons of new sales!
Thanks again!

Just discovered your blog from Nita Leland's blog. It's a great find. I'm loving your posts, and your work reminds me that collage artists must just be about the most "fun" people there are.

Dear ex: Thank you for visiting my blog. I took a look at yours. . . interesting photos, language unknown, very handsome gentleman. I will visit often.

Jazz: You know, I think you are right, it was supposed to be about yourself, not your life. And that is much harder, I think. On the whole, I think there are more things I love about myself than I hate about myself. Either I'm too old or I've changed my ways so that the hate list isn't very long. Or maybe I'm delusional.

Miki: Same here; time does change perspective. I'll get up my nerve and make some photos of my art one of these days.

Margaret: That's it exactly, and because it is not exactly a hot market for art, I seem to stress even more. Ah, well, I'll get over it. I'll just pretend I'm going to hang the art in my own hallway. That usually works.

Well, Rose, if you read this everyday, you can probably tell that I have some of the most mundane things to relate in this blog. I'm glad you aren't bored by it.

Gina, I have seen your blog post. Thank you so much. It's weird to see my collage on someone else's site. And I need to update my etsy site, to take off those collages that I gave away. Thanks again.

Hi, Dream, welcome to this blog. Nita Leland is just the coolest lady, isn't she? What a wonderful compliment to collage artists. Please visit often.

I think you made the right choice in photographs here. And I do like the idea of getting rid of the things you hate in your life.
