. . . engaged the furnace

for the first time on Saturday. It was cold in here. . . I couldn't stand it one more minute, I thought. Of course, the furnace was not working. Of course it wasn't. Why would it be working? So I lit the fireplace, took a long hot shower, and dressed in my heavy winter sweat pants and shirt and waited until Monday for the repairman. Thankfully there wasn't too much wrong with the furnace, and now it's not too cold any more either.

This painting is the second one in what was supposed to be soothing colors. I tried, I really did, but some red still sneaked in there. It's really more rust than bright red. It's as big a canvas that I have room to work on, so the finished size will be about 44 x 44".

These are the dominant elements I see in your work-- geometric division of space and textures-- and for the most part-- a dominance of subdued colors-- that does not mean that red or other colors can't be in your work from time to time-- especially if the red is subdued somewhat.

I think red is a very soothing colour myself...

These look good. I think red is your color, and there is no reason to fight it.

I agree that red can be soothing too: the red warmth of a fire (think coals and toasting marshmallows); red Autumn leaves against the backdrop of corn ready for harvest; the warm red of a good marinara over fresh pasta.....

oh...Monday was apparently Repairman Day. Ours was the 10 year old water heater that failed and flooded the furnace room...oy
