Day Dance, 1960-something; asked a guy, got stood up. At the time, I thought I would never recover from the humiliation; now I can't remember which guy it was. (Well, that's not true. I do remember the guy. . . not particularly fondly.) I had an idea for this painting when I started it, but it didn't turn out the way I had planned. I kept trying to rescue it, but, in my opinion, I was just making it worse, so I put it away. Then a woman wanted to see some of my artwork that hadn't been shown before, so I showed her this one. She liked it, but needed it bigger and with more green. However, this one has now taken on a new life (aha, recovered from its earlier humiliation??) and went away with a bunch of others for possible sale. This was a quick photo, on the floor of my studio, for documentation purposes and nothing else, so it's not a quality shot.
